LAW STUDENTS FROM THE USA IN THEIR VISIT TO ISTANBUL BAR ASSOCIATION

A delegation of 9 students from the London Law Consortium, a group of 7 different law schools in California, Kansas, New Jersey, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Washington State in the USA, paid a visit to Istanbul Bar Association at 11.00 a.m. on Monday, April 9, 2012.
The delegation headed by Prof. Dr. Adrien Wing, the Director of the Consortium, had a meeting with Atty. A. Metin Uracin, Chairman of Foreign Relations Center, and Atty. Sinan Naipoğlu, Executive Committee Secretary of the Trainee Lawyer Education Center of Istanbul Bar Association. The meeting was realized also with the presence of Atty. Tamer Öner, Member of the Foreign Relations Center, and Ece Basmacı Karalar, Foreign Relations Coordinator.
Atty. Uracin rendered general information about the functions, centers and commissions of Istanbul Bar Association as well as the size of the bar in terms of the number of its members. This informative part was followed by a Q&A Session, during which Uracin and Naipoğlu reflected on legal education, attorney traineeship, conditions for admission to the profession and the requirements to be fulfilled to become a judge or a prosecutor in Turkey, limitations before the foreign lawyers in their practice in Turkey as well as Turkey and the EU relations in its historical process. Besides, Wing, Uracin and Naipoğlu made a comparative analysis of the conditions for admission to the bar, waving among the bars and attorneyship examination both in Turkey and the USA while drawing attention to the similarities and differences.
